الْحَاقَّةُ 1 . The Reality

مَا الْحَاقَّةُ 2 . What is the Reality

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْحَاقَّةُ 3 . Ah , what will convey unto thee what the reality is!

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌ بِالْقَارِعَةِ 4 . ( The tribes of ) Thamud and Aad disbelieved in the judgment to come .

فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِالطَّاغِيَةِ 5 . As for Thamud , they were destroyed by the lightning .

وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ 6 . And as for Aad , they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind ,

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَانِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُوماً فَتَرَى الْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَى كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ 7 . Which He imposed on them for seven long nights and eight long days so that thou mightest have seen men lying overthrown , as they were hollow trunks of palm trees .

فَهَلْ تَرَى لَهُم مِّن بَاقِيَةٍ 8 . Canst thou ( O Muhammad ) see any remnant of them?

وَجَاء فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَن قَبْلَهُ وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَاتُ بِالْخَاطِئَةِ 9 . And Pharaoh and those before him , and the communities that were destroyed , brought error ,

فَعَصَوْا رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةً رَّابِيَةً 10 . And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord , therefor did He grip them with a tightening grip .

إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَى الْمَاء حَمَلْنَاكُمْ فِي الْجَارِيَةِ 11 . Lo! when the waters rose , We carried you upon the ship

لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَا أُذُنٌ وَاعِيَةٌ 12 . That We might make it a memorial for you , and that remembering ears ( that heard the story ) might remember .

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ 13 . And when the trumpet shall sound one blast

وَحُمِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَاحِدَةً 14 . And the earth with the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with one crash ,

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ 15 . Then , on that day will the Event befall .

وَانشَقَّتِ السَّمَاء فَهِيَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ 16 . And the heaven will split asunder , for that day it will be frail .

وَالْمَلَكُ عَلَى أَرْجَائِهَا وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَانِيَةٌ 17 . And the angels will be on the sides thereof , and eight will uphold the Throne of their Lord that day , above them .

يَوْمَئِذٍ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَى مِنكُمْ خَافِيَةٌ 18 . On that day ye will be exposed ; not a secret of you will be hidden .

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ فَيَقُولُ هَاؤُمُ اقْرَؤُوا كِتَابِيهْ 19 . Then , as for him who is given his record in his right hand , he will say : Take , read my book!

إِنِّي ظَنَنتُ أَنِّي مُلَاقٍ حِسَابِيهْ 20 . Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning .

فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ 21 . Then he will be in blissful state

فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ 22 . In a high Garden

قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٌ 23 . Whereof the clusters are in easy reach .

كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئاً بِمَا أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِي الْأَيَّامِ الْخَالِيَةِ 24 . ( And it will be said unto those therein ) : Eat and drink at ease for that which ye sent on before you in past days .

وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِشِمَالِهِ فَيَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي لَمْ أُوتَ كِتَابِيهْ 25 . But as for him who is given his record in his left hand , he will say : Oh , would that I had not been given my book

وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيهْ 26 . And knew not what my reckoning!

يَا لَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ الْقَاضِيَةَ 27 . Oh , would that it had been death!

مَا أَغْنَى عَنِّي مَالِيهْ 28 . My wealth hath not availed me ,

هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلْطَانِيهْ 29 . My power hath gone from me .

خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ 30 . ( It will be said ) : Take him and fetter him

ثُمَّ الْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ 31 . And then expose him to hell fire

ثُمَّ فِي سِلْسِلَةٍ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعاً فَاسْلُكُوهُ 32 . And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits .

إِنَّهُ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ 33 . Lo! he used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous ,

وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَى طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ 34 . And urged not on the feeding of the wretched ,

فَلَيْسَ لَهُ الْيَوْمَ هَاهُنَا حَمِيمٌ 35 . Therefor hath he no lover here this day ,

وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍ 36 . Nor any food save filth

لَا يَأْكُلُهُ إِلَّا الْخَاطِؤُونَ 37 . Which none but sinners eat .

فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ 38 . But nay! I swear by all that ye see

وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ 39 . And all that ye see not

إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ 40 . That it is indeed the speech of an illustrious messenger .

وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍ قَلِيلاً مَا تُؤْمِنُونَ 41 . It is not poet ' s speech little is it that ye believe!

وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍ قَلِيلاً مَا تَذَكَّرُونَ 42 . Nor diviner ' s speech little is it that ye remember!

تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ 43 . It is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds .

وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ الْأَقَاوِيلِ 44 . And if he had invented false sayings concerning Us ,

لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِالْيَمِينِ 45 . We assuredly had taken him by the right hand

ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ الْوَتِينَ 46 . And then severed his life artery ,

فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَاجِزِينَ 47 . And not one of you could have held Us off from him .

وَإِنَّهُ لَتَذْكِرَةٌ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ 48 . And lo! it is a warrant unto those who ward off ( evil ) .

وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ 49 . And lo! We know that some among you will deny ( it ) .

وَإِنَّهُ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ 50 . And lo! it is indeed an anguish for the disbelievers .

وَإِنَّهُ لَحَقُّ الْيَقِينِ 51 . And lo! it is absolute truth .

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ 52 . So glorify the name of thy Tremendous Lord .
